  • Measure you Snare and Toms' diameters to decide which sizes to order

  • Most common package includes 10", 12", 14" and a 16"

  • External overtone control ring that lays on the surface of the drum head

  • Removes overtones and flattens the drum heads' sound and allows for easier tuning

Improve Your Bass Drum Sound

bass-drum-muffling.jpeg

It is possible to shorten the sound a bass drum makes, or any drum! and we call this muffling.
For a bass drum you can place a pillow or a large blanket inside, making sure it's touching both skins and this will reduce the skins' ringing when struck - producing a shorter and more controlled pleasant sound.
You can buy a bass drum muffler, but it's a good idea to experiment with pillows or blankets first to see how much your drum needs, as you can overdo this process and be left with a toneless sound.

Drum Kit Silencer/Mute/Dampener Pads

Silencer Pds.jpeg
  • £40+

  • Cheap is fine! Look for a budget brand or preowned

  • Check the sizes (diameters) of each drum on your drum kit to make sure the pads fits

Headphones

  • Electronic kits:
Pretty much any headphones or ear buds will work fine with your kit and will allow you to practice quietly.

  • Acoustic kits
Look for 'closed headphones'. These are larger headphones that cover your ears and provide better isolation from your drums.

Mini Jack Lead

One of the best features an electronic drum kit offers is the option to directly connect your playback device via its line/aux/mix input.

Most kits require a 3.5mm (Mini Jack) audio cable to do this and cost £5-£10.

Look for a socket on the module of your kit for line, aux or mix, often next to the headphones output and plug your device in here.

You will now hear you drums and backing track together through your headphones!
